The Apparition – M.G. Vassanji (Hardcover)

Description

Thirteenth-century Delhi is in decline under the ageing Sultan Alauddin Khilji, beset by famine, fear of invasion and court intrigue. When a mysterious object appears in the sky, the Sultan sends his favourite, the Sufi poet Amir Hassan al-Shirazi, to investigate — and Hassan finds a city gripped by paranoia.

Then a grey cloud descends, and the Avians — half-man, half-bird — take over Delhi. As the city adjusts to its strange new rulers, Hassan wonders whether they will bring peace, and at what cost to the city’s soul. A daring novel from M.G. Vassanji.
