Description
On 6 September 1965, Indian forces advancing near Khemkaran in Punjab ran into heavy Pakistani artillery and had to fall back. They regrouped at a place called Asal Uttar — ‘true north’ — and there, in Sherman tanks, held off an armoured division equipped with superior M47 and M48 Pattons.
Based on the recollections of veterans, this is the story of one of the great tank battles of the 1965 war, by Brigadier Harash Vir Singh of the Deccan Horse and Shiv Kunal Verma, filmmaker and military historian and author of 1962: The War That Wasn’t and 1965: A Western Sunrise.
