Yajnaseni – Prathibha Ray

Description

Draupadi, heroine of the Mahabharata and one of the revered pancha sati, has suffered and sacrificed more than almost anyone in the epic — yet she is often misunderstood, and even blamed for the great war.

In Yajnaseni, Pratibha Ray retells the Mahabharata through Draupadi’s own story, giving voice to her love, pain and strength. The Oriya novel won the Orissa Sahitya Akademi Award and the Bharatiya Jnanpith’s Moorti Devi Puraskar, and appears here in its English translation by Pradip Bhattacharya.
