Description
People who like food and stories can find the Hundred Foot Journey to be interesting. in the first few chapters of this book, there are impressive descriptions of Indian cuisines. Halfway down the story line, the focus shifts on Paris and the book talks about French cuisine. The story revolves around a middle-aged cook, Hasan Haji, who comes from India to settle down in Paris as a cook. He establishes an elegant restaurant in the remote French village of Lumi. But unfortunately, his restaurant is on the opposite side of the road to a famous French restaurant owned by a reputed chef, Madam Mallory.
Ms Mallory finds that Hasan doesn’t have any formal training in cooking and all that he has learned is through experience. But, to her utter dismay, his natural way of cooking is quite fantastic and is better than hers. This horrifying discovery leads to a sort of culinary war between the famous French cook and this simple cook from a small place in Mumbai. The war between them is filled with lots of twists and turns, which leads Hasan to his true destiny in life. The story in the book goes intense as it progresses, but it also provides moments to laugh and rumble. This book is a good example of how food can unite people and culture. The Hundred Foot Journey is written by Richard C Morais and was published in hardcover format by HarperCollins in 2008.
