Selected Stories – Sangeeta Bandyopadhyay

Description

A young woman sets up a deceptive domestic arrangement with a man. A middle-aged woman projects an image of wealth on social media. An elderly woman endures daily humiliations in an old age home. Moving through the homes and streets of Kolkata, these stories explore patriarchy, sexual autonomy and self-discovery in middle-class Bengal.

Sangeeta Bandyopadhyay, author of Panty and Yogini, has written nine novels and over fifty short stories. Translated from the Bengali by Sayari Debnath, winner of the PEN Presents x SALT award.
