Humans : A Monstrous History – Surekha Davies

Description

From apes to zombies, ancient gods to Frankenstein’s monster, ET to generative AI — humans have always defined themselves against monsters. Award-winning historian of science Surekha Davies shows how, in the process, we also invented ideas of race, gender and nation, and decided who counts as ‘normal’.

Not a history of monsters but a history through them, this fascinating book reveals how monster-making has shaped the world — and how understanding it might help us reduce inequality and polarisation.
