Description
TURMERIC is an independent magazine exploring the creative pulse of the Indian subcontinent and its diaspora. Through in-depth conversations, stories, and visuals, it uncovers how artists, designers, and makers are shaping contemporary culture.
With a tone that’s curious, warm, and bold, TURMERIC celebrates the intersections of art, design, and identity—bringing together a growing ecosystem of creators, builders, and readers who believe in storytelling through print.
About Issue 01
The 160-page debut issue of TURMERIC traverses with stories unfolding across Ahmedabad, Baroda, Chandigarh, Goa, and Toronto. Through seven conversations, one essay, one poem, and a set of illustrations, it captures how contemporary Indian creatives are making, building, and dreaming within their own ecosystems.
Inside the first issue, you’ll find:
Anikesa Dhing, an artist based in Baroda, on nostalgia, abstraction, and materiality in art.
- Prachi Dhase, an illustrator based in Toronto, on diasporic identity and storytelling through mixed media.
Mackinlay Barreto, founder of The Local Beat, on mindful tourism, community, and creative entrepreneurship in Goa.
Vivitsa Kohli, founder of Vivikoh Studio, on building a design practice rooted in play and authenticity.
Dharini Patel, founder of Mud and Moon, on craft, process, and material-led design.
Chirag Patel, on his relationship with his 40-year-old home in Baroda, Gujarat.
Deetishaa Koradia, on speculative architecture and reimagining Ahmedabad in 2075 through her project DroneHive.
Parth Rahatekar’s poem, Home is something bodily, and Saniya Patel’s essay, The Fallen Mogra, exploring nostalgia, loss, and longing.
Illustrations by Kartika Bagodi, Candy People, a visual meditation on colour, chaos, and joy.
