These small theaters, which create and produce risky theater, are the antidote to the McFranchising of American theater. they take a chance on unknown writers. They introduce theater to a different demographic, ofter for the price of a movie ticket. They don’t do it for money, nor do they do it for the attention. They do it because they believe in the innate power of theater to transform a society and a culture. They do it because they need to speak to their community and are trying to find alternative means by which to do that. They do it because they believe in what the theater has to offer.
