Description

An independent bi-annual culture magazine dedicating each issue to a particular tribe in India and its myths, origin, traditions and subcultures.

Vasi Magazine Issue 1 features the Gadaba tribe of Koraput Odisha. They are the largest tribal community in Odisha with fascinating myths and traditions. The issue also reveals never-seen-before photographs of an ancient temple kitchen in Odisha dating back to the 14th century AD. The cover story is that of the Gotipua tradition and its influence in Indian classical dance-form Odissi. Among the contributors for this issue are renowned humanitarian photographer Michele Zousmer and her encounters at a remote post-communist Bulgarian village, Oxford-based travel photographer, Bharat Patel telling his visual version of the ancient bull-jumping ceremony in Omo Valley, Ethiopia and Chennai-based photographer, Pranav O.M, giving us a rare glimpse of life in the Car Nicobar Island.
