Description

Mahashweta Devi used her words to serve the people in tribal areas. Before she became a renowned activist and a writer, she was a little girl Khukhu who harbored oodles of love for the written word. Sometimes words took the form of knives that left her with a wounded heart. Mahashweta Devi went on to write for the oppressed during the freedom movement especially highlighting the struggles of the tribal people who suffered injustice at the hands of colonial rulers.

She was honored with Padma awards and eventually won the Ramon Magsaysay award for her activism and contribution to literature. Through her words, she rendered a voice to the voiceless.

The Dreamers series gives a condensed biography about distinguished people starting from their childhood and focuses on their important achievements. In this volume, the writing flows slowly and then overwhelms you like the raging waters of river Hooghly. The yellow ochre and black illustrations inspired by the artworks of Chittaprosad Bhattacharya speak volumes about her contribution to literature.
