Ravidas, the fifteenth century bhakti poet, ‘a tanner set free’, was the first to envision an Indian utopia in his song “Begumpura”—a casteless, classless, tax-free city without sorrow. This was in contrast to the dystopia of the brahmanic Kaliyuga.
