London, July 1944. The news is everywhere: the end of the war is coming. But for Emmy Lake and her team at Woman’s Friend magazine, life is far from easy and their problem page, “Yours Cheerfully”, tells a similar story: after five years of war, the nation is finding it pretty hard to Keep On Going.

When there is a near miss at the Pimlico offices, Emmy makes a decision: the entire staff of Woman’s Friend will move to Rose House in Hampshire for the summer. There they can continue doing their work safe from the German bombs. But the war is still calling. When Emmy gets the opportunity to travel to Europe for her first real piece of war journalism, she jumps at the chance to finally make her dream come true and be a Lady War Correspondent. But her husband Charles has news of his own: he has been called back to the front just as all the other troops seem to be heading for home.

When disaster strikes Emmy finds herself alone in London. Now she needs her friends to pull together more than ever . . .
