Since 2013

At Pagdandi, our purpose is simple, to enable authentic human experiences.

In 2013, we began as a small store that rented books and served chai. Today, we still do that — as well as sell books, host events, exhibit artists, promote home chefs and more. That “more” is providing the very best customer service, customer experience, and company culture. We aim to make it possible to simultaneously deliver happiness to customers, employees, vendors, shareholders, and the community in a long-term, sustainable way.

Who we are

Pagdandi – An alternate kaccha rasta (rough path or minor road), unpaved, less taken, more fulfilling.
In Marathi: Payvat

A Yellow shutter on the slopes of rolling hills of Baner, Pune belongs to a “Cupboard under the stairs” Bookstore Café. This is where Kipling jostles for space with piping hot Kulhad Chai and gooey homemade brownies provide a fitting accompaniment to Doyle.

Pagdandi is a concept Book Cafe, promoting conscious and alternate lifestyle choices. The store provides multiple services under one roof. There is a wide collection of books with a focus on independent publishers, for reading, rental and purchase in a Café environment. Organic Tea, Bio-diversity friendly Coffee, Wholesome Sandwiches and Fresh Juices are served along with piping hot fresh Adrak Chai and tantalizing Homemade Cakes. A gallery wall allows budding artists and photographers to display their work. Merchandise with a conscious thought behind them is also available for sale. Creative events in the nature of Book Readings, Storytelling, Music Jam’s, Art & Craft Workshops, Poetry sessions, Theatre workshops and Group Discussions on Social & Scientific issues make it a lively hub to bring the community together leading to an exchange of thoughts and ideas.

The idea is to create an interactive, creative and open space where one can relax and ideate over the multiple facets of life yet unexplored, be encouraged to utilize the maximum individual potential. We also host events and workshops in tune with our philosophies.

Our Beginnings

Neha quit her full time job as a Television producer to backpack and pursue Yoga. She is now settled in Pune. Vishal quit his full time job as an IT Manager to backpack throughout the country and share his adventure with the world.

Pagdandi was conceived by us in 2013. We wanted a place where we could settle into a cosy nook, Adrak Chai in hand and read our favourite authors whole day long. Being always on the move, we also wanted access to healthy and wholesome food. Pagdandi is an endeavour in that direction. A place you can relax, chill out and interact with new likeminded people. A space where the moment you enter, you feel happy. An adda for creative collaborators. Our first footsteps on the Pagdandi of life.

Pagdandi Bookstore was founded in the heart of Pune in 2013 with a vision to create more than just a space for books. Since it’s inception, It has been a meeting ground for book lovers, writers, artists, and the community, a place where conversations flow as freely as the coffee served alongside. Co-founded by Neha and Vishal, the bookstore has become a cultural landmark in Pune, nurturing the city’s literary spirit with a handpicked selection of books spanning a wide range of genres. Whether you’re searching for Indian literature in translation, thought-provoking nonfiction, or global fiction, Pagdandi offers something for every curious mind.

The collection is carefully curated to reflect its founders’ passion for fostering meaningful dialogues, creativity, and independent thought. You’ll find everything from works of dalit writing, philosophy and poetry to contemporary voices, feminist writings, nature writing and graphic novels. True to its name, which means ‘The Rough Road’ in Hindi, Pagdandi leads readers to new worlds, one book at a time.

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.30 AM to 8.30 PM, Pagdandi Bookstore also hosts regular talks, book launches, and book community events, making it more than just a store—it’s a home for Pune’s intellectual and creative pulse.
