Rampur is an isolated Indian village without even a whiff of science because the village does not have a science teacher. The Rampurkars tuen to the powerful village Headman to solve all their problems to which the Headman offers mad-cap unscientific solutions – pluck three grey hairs from a hairy head every day to curse a stomach ache, perform a somersault at four o’ clock to ward off the evil eye and so on.

Eleven-year-old Jambhula, named after the Jambhul fruit, lives in Rampur. Jambhula has a curious mind and constantly asks questions. In a village full of weird rules, Jambuhla and her friend Damya are mischievous enough to make their own way and get into all kinds of scrapes, but even her adventures are not enough for Jambhula’s restless mind,

One day, the Government of India sends a science teacher to Rampur. Science makes a rollicking entry in the form of a young science teacher, Miss Mala, who has blue hair. Miss Mala introduces science to Rampur and tells them exciting facts about Newton, Galileo, Darwin and Aryabhatta. Science fascinates Jambhula, and the village starts to Change, but someone isn’t happy, and a strange threat looms over the village. But once in love with science, always in love with science, and so Jambhula takes a huge risk.
